Home Projects JC Claims
Gray Rock acquired the JC Claims, located on the southern Cortez/Battle Mountain gold trend of central Nevada, in 2007. Sixty new claims, contiguous to the existing claim block, were staked in early 2008. The combined claims now cover about 1,200 acres. The property lies approximately 20 miles south of the Cortez Hills discovery (Barrick/Kennecott) and west of the Tonkin Springs property.
This highly prospective property hosts an exposed Lower Plate window in the Roberts Mountains Overthrust, making it a prime target for discovery of Carlin-Style gold mineralization. The region has hosted a number of gold discoveries in the past decades, including Tonkin Springs and Gold Bar.
The JC claims are centred on exposed and mineralized lower plate rocks of the Roberts Mountains overthrust, an important geological feature that has hosted a number of large-scale gold discoveries in the region. The newly staked claims include surrounding areas of poorly exposed and prospected lower plate rocks, often covered by a thin veneer of valley-fill gravel.
For 2008, under the direction of consulting geologist Vic Chevillon, M.Sc., Gray Rock plans to conduct detailed geologic mapping and sampling to define new gold targets that warrant drill testing. Mr. Chevillion is an exploration geologist with 36 years’ experience with major mining companies including Noranda, Homestake, Placer Dome and Barrick Gold. He has held key exploration roles in Nevada for Placer Dome (now owned by Barrick).
